KONTEJNER at Science+art cafe in Dubrovnik

New Science+art cafe organized by KONTEJNER’s partner UR Institute takes place on Saturday, April 27th 2019 at the conference hall on the Lokrum island. In its newest edition, the event is dedicated to our EMAP residency and the artwork "Wombs" by a bio-artist Margherita Pevere that is being produced during the residency.

This year's Science+art caffe organized by KONTEJNER’s partner UR Institute will present the research of the international bio-art project of the artist Margherita Pevere and her artwork "Wombs" that is being produced through our EMAP residency in 2019. The event strives to open public dialogue and critical review on the use of hormonal contraception, its impact on the female body (in corpo) and the consequences of releasing the substances into the environment (ex corpo).

The programme consists of a series of presentations and a round table. Guest lecturers will engage in conversation about hormonal and related pharmacological pollutants that often remain ignored because of their invisibility. These pollutants are released into marine and river habitats where they affect ecosystems and undermine their sensitive equilibrium. The event aims to stimulate debate on the protection of valuable resources crucial for economic development, the biodiversity of the Dubrovnik area and the lack of new media and progressive art in the County of Dubrovnik. Science+art caffe aims to foster citizens' awareness of relevant challenges in contemporary society and stimulate discussion on the development of science and technology and sustainable society.
